December—a month of festivity, love, and joy! Filipinos generally love holidays, and out of all these holidays, the excitement for Christmas day to come remains different. The moment we noticed the days growing shorter than nights along with the cold winds that complimented the warmth we shared with our families and friends, we assume that Christmas is drawing closer. Many would describe their experiences as hearing people go from door-to-door to sing Christmas carols, listening to Christmas songs and covers play endlessly at every mall, as well as seeing colorful Christmas lights and lanterns decorated on houses, parks, and streets. Out of all, the essence of Christmas would be on its day, December 25, and the celebrations that come with it.
Once the spirit of Christmas graces Divinians, the preparation and the moments from the Christmas party itself will most likely flash into their minds like a scene from a movie. Decorations on the four walls of the room, an abundance of food to share, both classmates and teachers in their Christmas party attires, games and intermission numbers, picture-takings, numerous gifts, and even the small gatherings out of the campus that came after the celebration.
No one could have expected that the tradition would be modified for 2020. For the first time in history, Divine Light Academy - Bacoor has celebrated its Christmas parties online!

Despite having to celebrate through phones and computer screens, the Christmas parties held last December 18 went by smoothly as most students and teachers were already accustomed to the online setting. The challenge to this, however, was how to make it enjoyable for all, but upon seeing everyone’s enthusiasm during the games and intermission numbers for the celebration, it wasn’t difficult to make the party as entertaining as it was during the past years. Most importantly, the warmth and that nostalgic feeling when everyone’s gathered during the celebration—not to study or to have formal discussions, but to simply enjoy each other’s company—made it feel as if the pandemic hasn’t separated us for months in the first place. Also, since this year’s “virtual” festivity was a first, it could even be the most memorable party for many!
What once was unimaginable was now made into reality. This year featured numerous challenges that dawned upon us, however, what should remain notable is how we were able to overcome them. As Christmas finally comes and a new light shines to welcome the year of 2021, may we continue to spread love and happiness, no matter what ups and downs we are forced to face.
