Last August 4, 2019, The Growth Opportunities for Leaders Development (GOLD) program was held at DLA Bacoor at its Audio Visual Room. Student governments, CAT Officers, and other leaders from different interest clubs of both DLA Bacoor and DLA Las Piñas participated in the said event. The GOLD Program was hosted by Mr. Ruel Montenegro, Owner and President of Corporate and Career Consultants Inc. (CORE), and his colleagues.

The program was said to promote fundamental skills and help shape the youth to be better leaders. This was the very first time DLA participated in a leadership program since its foundation. The organization that held the event specializes in consulting and training management bodies and has been hosting programs like GOLD in different schools around the country. CORE previously helped introduce a Ranking system to both DLA Bacoor and Las Piñas faculty members in a general assembly last June 11.

Present at the event was Student Council Adviser, Mrs. Luisa L. Ordoñez who, together with the help of other DLA Staff, helped facilitate the event. DLA School Head Dr. Leonila D. Sese, Vice Principal Ma. Teresa A. Dagu-ob and DLA Bacoor Student Affairs Coordinator Elizabeth A. Francisco were also present at the venue.

Through a text message, DLA Bacoor S.C. President Riza Rebello told how the program helped the leaders realize their weaknesses and the council to have its ‘own mindset in giving projects’. She also expressed her desire to host the program annually for future council members. Also through a text message, DLA S.C. Vice-President Dwayne Antonio shared his insights, stating that he learned how to ‘find his (my) voice’. ‘To be a good leader you first need to become a great follower’.

The program started around 8 in the morning with a three-hour talk with Mr. Ruel Montenegro who emphasized the importance of acquiring leadership skills while still at a very young age. He also talked about the different aspects that embody good leadership. The talk was followed by a series of team activities held in the campus’s covered court that was said to help each leader realize their capabilities and what set of skills they should improve. The latter part of the program was another talk with Mr. Montenegro, reflecting back on the activities. The event was concluded with a brief discussion on how school platforms should be formulated and put into action.

Shortly after, certificates were handed out to Mr. Montenegro, his fellow consultants and the teachers who helped with the event.
