Last July 23, Divine Light Academy held the Reading Fest with the theme of “Read Up, Learn and Have Fun”.
The event showcased many talents from primary to high school who exhibited great performance in the literary arts and speech. Showing off their skill through poem writing, recitation, and reading was the main highlight of the event.
The elementary students exhibited great effort in their reading events, starting from story reading, poem reading, and a big read-aloud event held on the stage. They showed impeccable effort in reading the selections which they were given. I was amazed with how the primary students delivered their selections with such passion and emotion with their delivery. Overall, their activities were able to run smoothly without too many issues.

The intermediate level’s events were something to look forward to especially the Grade 4's “Characters Come Alive” event where they wore costumes and portrayed their characters in the most accurate way they can. The interactive reading and read-aloud events by Grades 5 and 6 were also able to proceed smoothly.
Moving on to the JHS events, we can see skills that were clearly polished and had more flair than the previous levels. They showed exemplary delivery with slam poetry for Grade 8 and impromptu storytelling for Grade 9. The slam poetry by Grade 8 was something to look forward to, with many students writing their own poems, a wide variety of topics came with it too. Some speakers struck hard on the many issues that the current generation faces, some dwelled on love and friendships, and some laid out interesting topic such as depression, virtues, and society. The event held by Grade 9 was an impromptu storytelling event. This event showcased the imagination of the speakers, their interests, and how they can portray their ideas.
This truly was a wonderful event, because not only were they able to show their interests and ideas, but this may have also inspired others to do so.
Overall, the held event was able to show that some of these people are very talented, and possess an aptitude of literary arts and speech. The event gave them the opportunity to be under the spotlight, shine, and be noticed. Such events should truly be held every so often so the hidden jewels of DLA would be noticed.
